The 25th anniversary is fast approaching in the disappearance of 11-year-old Jacob Wetterling, who was abducted near his parents’ home southeast of St. Joseph on October 23, 1989. Twenty-five-years after he was abducted, authorities are launching a billboard campaign to get the public’s help in finding Jacob Wetterling.
Jacob was biking with his brother and a friend on Oct. 22, 1989, when they were stopped by a masked gunman on a St. Joseph road. The other boys were told to run, but Jacob was taken. He was 11.
This Tuesday, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, the Stearn’s County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the FBI are launching a campaign to seek the public’s help in their ongoing search.
Six billboards will be placed in areas near the abduction. They will feature Jacob’s picture and an age progression, and will ask the public to call 1-800-THE-LOST with information that might lead to Jacob. Photo courtesy of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
